Hillington based Kitchen design specialists, The Kitchen Depot, have donated a brand new kitchen to the charity Who Cares? Scotland for their newly opened Paisley youth space.
Who Cares? Scotland is Scotland’s only national independent membership organisation for Care Experienced people. The term “Care Experienced” refers to anyone who is currently in care or has been for any length of time regardless of their age. This care may have been provided in many different settings, such as: foster care, kinship care, residential care, adoption and looked after at home. Who Cares? Scotland also provides advocacy and participation opportunities across Scotland.
With an estimated value of £2,000, the kitchen has several cabinets, a counter for a microwave, kettle and more, space for a fridge and a small seated area where young people can sit, chat and maybe enjoy a nice drink or snack.
This new space will be used to run groups for Care Experienced Primary and Secondary school-age children and young people, who will be able to come together, have fun, and learn about their rights. The space will also offer a ‘drop-in’ location for older Care Experienced people to connect with their peers and build a sense of community.
This generous donation has transformed the new venue from a ‘blank space with white walls’ into a warm, welcoming, friendly space the Care Experienced community can call their own. Thanks to The Kitchen Depot, Paisley now has a place where Care Experienced people feel they belong and can be supported without judgement for years to come.
Zoey Hillman, Renfrewshire Development Officer at Who Cares? Scotland, who helps run the youth space, said:
“We are extremely grateful for this generous gift from the Kitchen Depot. It offers a new dimension to the space, making it much more inviting for Care Experienced people who attend. This donation will hugely support our participation activities and help push towards our goal of a lifetime of equality, respect and love for Care Experienced people, and I can’t wait to see what fun we get up to.”
Mark McCay, Managing Director from the Kitchen Depot said:
“When Kitchen Depot sales designer Marcus was contacted by his sister Zoey, who works for Who Cares? Scotland, about the possibility of upgrading the space, the Kitchen Depot were happy to oblige, and went ahead with the design, manufacturing and installation of the kitchen. We’re glad our contribution will make such a positive difference.”
